Rabbi Levi Brackman has penned a piece at ynetnews.com that shows what is wrong with the Israeli (western) approach towards the Islamists.
In reality, however, the only people they humiliated were themselves. They have yet again shown their contempt for human life, even for the life of their own people. Hizbullah and these Islamic extremists have shown the world that even the death of 200 of their own men does not move them.
We are trying to judge these people by our standards. I have stated often that this is futile and dangerous. They don't care one bit about our "western morality". They are a violent people who live by that code. Judging them through "western enlightened eyes" solves nothing and leads us to the wrong responses.
Standing firm on our "talk first and then talk some more" approach to solving problems only incites and fuels the islamist more. They realize we are not willing to die for life. Not only are they willing to die, they will die as heroes to their people. They are defending their way of life while we are talking about ours. What we consider strength, they take advantage of as a weakness and they are right. All these people understand is overwhelming strength. Compassion has no place in their society. We cannot force it on them with tactful dissertations. A punch in the face always has a bigger impact than philosophy.
